Trivia Tuesday: I yam what I yam

Happy birthday, E.C. Segar! Were the creator of the popular “Popeye the Sailor” cartoon strip still alive, he would turn 115 today.

Popeye made his first appearance in a 1929 comic strip that centered on the Oyl family. Among the Oyl family members were Cole, his son Castor and, most notably, his daughter Olive — who was destined to become Popeye’s true love.

The spinach loving sailor was so popular with readers that E.C. Segar ultimately decided to rename the long-running cartoon strip after him.

What was the name of the cartoon strip that was originally published in 1919 and was later changed to “Popeye the Sailor”?

Take a guess in the comments section, and we’ll post the correct answer next week.

Answer to last week’s question: According to legend, the tradition of standing during the Hallelujah Chorus goes back to 1743 when King George II stood during the original performance.
