This weekend, Olivet’s drama club, Green Room, invites you to join them for one of the most spectacular events on the ONU calendar: Broadway Revue.
Choreographed, directed and performed by ONU students, the show features a wide array of scenes and songs from all your favorite Broadway shows.
It’s hard to imagine what a show like this would look like were it not for the musical artistry of Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein. Together, they composed some of the most popular Broadway tunes of all time, garnering 34 Tony Awards, 15 Academy Awards, the Pulitzer Prize and two Grammys.
But as good as they all were, some Rogers and Hammerstein songs were inevitably cut from the shows for which they were originally written. Occasionally, these songs were remembered and repurposed for later shows.
A catchy Rogers and Hammerstein song titled “Suddenly Lucky” was cut from “South Pacific,” but a slightly revamped version of that song was later performed by Gertrude Lawrence in “The King and I” under a new title. What was the new song title?
Take a guess in the “Comments” section and we’ll post the correct answer next week.
Rock star status goes to rwoodwpc for correctly guessing the answer to last week’s question : On September 8, 1968, the Beatles gave their last live television performance on the David Frost show, singing “Hey Jude.” Click here to see a You Tube clip of that performance.
